I have been playing piano for 30 years.  I started at age 5, I was gigging by 6, and by the time I was 12 I was semi-professional, playing numerous gigs with local musicians some decades my senior - particularly as part of the Langstone Cliff Hotel house band (backing acts such as Lenny Henry & Bill Bailey; etc).  Also in my early teens I became the pianist for the Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra first band, being honoured to play with them at the Purcell Rooms and the Royal Festival Hall as part of the National Festival (I played also for DYO, DYCO, DSSWB, EDCB). At university I was heavily engaged in the music scene, being a member of a funk group which were on the same bill with acts such as Jamelia, Trevor Nelson, Reef, Hot Chocolate, Groove Armada - indeed, many of the personnel of the group were/are eminent in their own right (now playing in the bands of  Tom Jones, Kylie, Adele, etc).   I was also a resident keyboardist at Tiger Tiger (Leeds) and Stealth (Nottingham) nightclubs, and a piano accompanist for many final year Music Degree recital examinations at Nottingham University's Music Department. After my PhD, I stayed on at university as a tutor, but still did regular gigs for the university and others (Oxford and Cambridge). In this period too I also appeared on Radio 3 with the singing group '‘The Merrie Fellowes'’.  After four years academic teaching in South Kensington, having already played for BP, Boots, PwC at Shakespeare'’s Globe, and hotels such as the Berkeley and the Landmark, I've returned to Exeter to set down roots.  I'm experienced in many musical styles - classical, pop, jazz, funk, shows, gospel, etc.
